Plymouth City Council has announced a proposal to construct road humps on West Down Road as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance traffic safety. This initiative is being undertaken under Section 90 of the Highways Act 1980 and other relevant powers.

The proposed locations for the road humps are approximately 50 metres and 110.5 metres from the centre of the West Down Road junctions with Beacon Park Road and Furneaux Road, respectively. Both humps will feature a round top design with dimensions of 6.7 metres in width, 3.7 metres in length, and a height of 75 millimetres.

Residents and interested parties are encouraged to review the detailed plans available on the Plymouth City Council website. Those who wish to comment on the proposal can submit their feedback in writing to the Service Director for Street Services at Plymouth City Council or via email by quoting reference ‘Amd.2025.2137346 West Down Road’. The deadline for submitting comments is 17 October 2025.

This development aims to improve road safety by reducing vehicle speeds in the area, thereby enhancing pedestrian safety and overall traffic management.
