Overview of Traffic Changes in Plymouth

Plymouth City Council has announced several important traffic and road restrictions effective from November 2026. These changes are part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and facilitate essential infrastructure works across the city.

Cornwall Street Speed Limit Regulations

The City of Plymouth has enacted a new order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, affecting Place De Brest (Cornwall Street). This order prohibits all motor vehicles on this section, aiming to enhance pedestrian safety and manage traffic flow. Residents or interested parties have six weeks from the order date, November 2, 2026, to challenge its validity through the High Court. Full details can be accessed on the Plymouth City Council's website or by contacting their office.

Temporary Restrictions on Edwards Drive and Surrounding Areas

From November 16, 2026, to March 1, 2027, there will be a temporary restriction on parking, waiting, loading, unloading, and pedestrian access across several roads including Edwards Drive and Moulton Close. This is necessary for phased gas main works managed by Wales & West Utilities. The restrictions will be in place 24 hours a day.

Ham Green/Jedburgh Crescent Traffic Restrictions

Starting November 23 until December 4, 2026, Ham Green northbound and Jedburgh Crescent at the junction with Ham Drive will face temporary through-traffic restrictions from 7am to 6pm. These measures are required to facilitate footway improvements by South West Highways.

Martin Street Parking Restrictions

Martin Street will experience a temporary restriction on parking, waiting, loading, and unloading between Sawrey Street and Sawrey Street Lane from November 19, 2026, until April 14, 2028. This is to enable dropped kerb works conducted by Porteous Groundworks Ltd.

Impact and Public Participation

These restrictions are expected to impact local traffic patterns significantly. Residents are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly and contact the relevant authorities if they have concerns or require further information about these changes.
