Plymouth City Council has announced a proposal to install new controlled pedestrian crossings and construct road humps on Kings Road, near Rectory Road. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve road safety in the area, which has experienced two fatal and several serious collisions in recent years.

The proposal includes the installation of two new zebra crossings. The first will be located approximately 67 metres northwest of the junction with Rectory Road, and the second about 25 metres north of its junction with Stonehouse Bridge. Both crossings are designed to be controlled, enhancing pedestrian safety.

In addition to the crossings, several speed humps are planned along Kings Road. These include flat top speed cushions and round top speed humps at various locations to help manage vehicle speeds effectively. The dimensions of these humps vary, with widths ranging from 2.0 metres to 7.6 metres and heights up to 100mm.

As part of the scheme, four trees will need to be removed to ensure clear visibility for the new crossings. However, the council plans to mitigate this by planting 19 new trees in surrounding street and park areas, including a community orchard with 14 apple trees.

Comments on the proposed order can be submitted in writing to the Service Director for Street Services at Plymouth City Council or online by quoting reference ‘Amd.2025.2137351 Kings Road’ by 24 December 2025.
