New controlled pedestrian crossings on Kings Road

Plymouth City Council has announced plans to install two new controlled zebra pedestrian crossings on Kings Road. The first crossing will be approximately 67 metres northwest of the junction with Rectory Road, while the second will be about 25 metres north of its junction with Stonehouse Bridge. These installations aim to enhance pedestrian safety in the area.

Proposed road humps on Kings Road

In addition to the pedestrian crossings, several road humps are proposed for Kings Road. These include flat top speed cushions and round top speed humps at various locations to manage vehicle speeds effectively. The dimensions and specific locations of these humps are detailed in the public notice.

Tree removal and replanting initiative

As part of the safety improvements, four trees will be removed to ensure clear visibility of the new crossings. However, Plymouth City Council plans to plant 19 new trees in nearby streets and parks, including a community orchard with 14 apple trees.

Temporary prohibition of driving on Tavistock Road

A temporary prohibition of driving order has been issued for Tavistock Road due to cable works scheduled from 10th December 2025 to 11th December 2025. This will affect the right-hand turn into Sendalls Way and close the bus lane inbound and outbound from Derriford Roundabout.

Changes to hackney carriage stands on Saltash Road

The hackney carriage stand on Saltash Road is proposed to be reduced from three vehicles to one. This change is part of a broader review under the Plymouth City Council Act 1975.
