Devon County Council has announced a temporary prohibition of traffic on Matford Lane in Exeter due to essential gas service disconnection work. The closure will commence on Thursday April 9 2026 and is expected to last until Tuesday April 14 2026. This measure is part of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 under Section 14 and aims to facilitate the safe and efficient completion of the necessary works by Wales & West Utilities.

During this period no vehicles will be allowed to proceed or park on the affected sections of Matford Lane. To minimise disruption an alternative route has been designated via Topsham Road St Leonards Road and Wonford Road with signage provided to guide motorists.

The temporary restriction is deemed essential to ensure public safety while the gas service disconnection is carried out. Residents and commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra time for travel.

For further information regarding the road closure or the works being undertaken individuals can contact Wales & West Utilities directly at 02920102441. The order was issued by Meg Booth Director of Climate Change Environment & Transport at Devon Highways Devon County Council.

Those who have any concerns or believe they may be adversely impacted by this closure are encouraged to reach out to Devon County Council for assistance.
