Devon County Council has announced a temporary prohibition of through traffic on Lower Shapter Street in Topsham. This restriction is effective from 21 December 2025 and is expected to last until 31 March 2026. The closure is necessary to facilitate scaffolding for rendering and structural restoration works at the Topsham Museum.

The affected area will see no vehicular access during this period. An alternative route has been designated via Higher Shaptor Street and Strand, ensuring continued access around the area.

This measure is part of a broader effort to maintain and restore local heritage sites, with the Topsham Museum being a focal point of these efforts. Residents and visitors are advised to follow the signed detours and plan their journeys accordingly.

For further details or inquiries, individuals can contact PSB Scaffolding at 01626 352715. The order was issued by Meg Booth, Director of Climate Change, Environment & Transport at Devon Highways.

Those who have any concerns or believe they may be adversely impacted are encouraged to reach out to Devon County Council for more information.
