J. Murphy & Sons Limited has submitted an application to the Environment Agency for a transfer licence to abstract water from alluvium at the Waltham Cross National Grid Substation. This application is made under the Water Resources Act 1991, as amended by the Water Act 2003, and is in accordance with Section 37 of the Act and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The proposed abstraction points are located at National Grid Reference TL 37379 03765, with the intention to transfer water to the River Lea and River Lea Flood Relief Channel at National Grid References TL 37379 03765 and TL 37783 03653 without any intervening use. The application details the intention to abstract up to 12.88 cubic metres of water per hour, amounting to a daily total of 103 cubic metres and an annual total of 37,595 cubic metres.

This abstraction is planned to support construction dewatering activities over a five-year period, concluding in December 2030. All abstracted water will be returned to the River Lea, ensuring minimal environmental impact.
