Hertfordshire road closures announced for January 2026
Hertfordshire County Council plans multiple road closures starting January 2026.

Hertfordshire County Council has announced a series of temporary road closures across the county, set to begin in January 2026. These closures are necessary to facilitate various utility and maintenance works on or near the affected roads. The orders will be enforced under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Affected Roads and Alternative Routes

  1. Burton Lane, Goffs Oak: Closed from its junction with St James Road for approximately 650m. Alternative route via St James Road, Newgatestreet Road, B156 Goffs Lane, and Burton Lane.
  2. Rags Lane/Crouch Lane, Goffs Oak: Closed from its junction with Andrews Lane for approximately 426m. Alternative route via Andrews Lane, Rosedale Way, Peakes Way, and Rags Lane.
  3. Whitley Road, Hoddesdon: Closed from its junction with Stanstead Road for approximately 30m. Alternative route via Stanstead Road, Old Highway, and Whitley Road.
  4. Hawthorne Road, Hoddesdon: Closed from its junction with Stanstead Road for approximately 30m. Alternative route via Stanstead Road, Lilac Road, Laburnum Road, and Hawthorne Road.
  5. Kenning Road, Hoddesdon: Closed from its junction with Stanstead Road for approximately 30m. Alternative route via Stanstead Road, Middlefield Road, Fairfield Road, and Kenning Road.
  6. Andrews Lane, Goffs Oak: Closed from its junction with Great Groves to Jubilee Close for approximately 100m. Alternative route via Andrews Lane, Rags Lane, St James Road, Newgatestreet Road, B156 Goffs Lane, Rosedale Way.
  7. Pelham Road, Braughing: Closed from its junction with Friars Road for approximately 83m. Alternative route via The Street, Ford Street, B1386 (Green End/ Hay Street/ Dassels Hill/Dassels/unnamed road), B1038 (unnamed road/ Conduit Lane/Pump Hill), C15 (unnamed road), Ginns Road.
  8. Friars Road, Braughing: Closed from a point in line with the western boundary of No.20 Friars Road south eastwards for approximately 85m.
  9. The Street, Braughing: Closed from its southernmost junction with The Square to Ford Street for approximately 291m.
  10. Crib Street, Ware: Closed from a point 38m north east of Church Street for approximately 20m.
  11. B158 Bengeo Street, Hertford: Closed from its junction with Warren Park Road north westwards for approximately 215m.
  12. Bridleway, Hoddesdon: Closed from A1170 Ware Road/ Plomer Avenue roundabout eastwards to Bridleway North/Bridleway South roundabout for approximately 87m.
  13. Dewhurst Road, Cheshunt: Closed from Churchgate Road to Church Lane for approximately 571m.
  14. Duncombe Road, Hertford: Closed from The Drive to Farquhar Street for approximately 461m.
  15. Sturlas Way, Waltham Cross: Closed from A121 Winston Churchill Way/B176 High Street roundabout to Park Lane for approximately 248m.
  16. Mill Lane, Watton at Stone: Closed from Whempstead Road to Watton at Stone Public Bridleway No.005 for approximately 954m.
  17. B156 Cuffley Hill, Goffs Oak: Closed from a point 100m south west of Robinson Avenue south westwards for approximately 70m.

Purpose of Closures

These closures are essential to carry out necessary utility service works including gas main replacements and drainage connections as well as other maintenance activities aimed at improving infrastructure safety and reliability in the region.

Duration and Contact Information
