Hertfordshire road closures announced for April 2026
Hertfordshire County Council announces multiple road closures starting April 2026.

Hertfordshire County Council has announced a series of temporary road closures across the county, set to commence in April 2026. These closures are part of ongoing maintenance and utility works aimed at improving infrastructure and ensuring safety.

Bridleway Thundridge 48 & Footpaths 49, 49A, 49B The council intends to close Bridleway Thundridge 48 and Footpaths 49, 49A, and 49B from Cambridge Road southeast for approximately 100 metres. This closure is necessary for resurfacing works and will be effective from 13 April 2026 for up to six weeks. Alternative routes include Thundridge 45 for pedestrians and Thundridge 39 for equestrians and cyclists.

Crib Street, Ware Crib Street will be closed from its junction with St Evroul Court northeastwards for about 53 metres due to water connection works. The closure will start on 13 April 2026 and last five days. An alternative route is available via Crib Street, Church Street, A1170 (High Street/Baldock Street), The Bourne, and Crib Street.

Queen Hoo Lane, Tewin Queen Hoo Lane will be closed from Bramfield Road southeastwards to Tewin Hill for utility service works. The closure begins on 13 April 2026 and will last ten days. Alternative routes include Bramfield Road, Burnham Green Road, Orchard Road, Upper Green, and Tewin Hill.

Benington Road, Walkern Benington Road will be closed from High Street southeastwards to Walkern Road for five days starting on 13 April 2026. Vehicles are also prohibited from waiting on both sides of the road during this period. Alternative routes include High Street, B1037 (Stevenage Road/Fairlands Way), A1155 (Fairlands Way/St Georges Way), A602 (Stevenage Road/Broadhall Way/Hooks Cross), High Street, and Walkern Road.

Benningfield Road/Benningfield Close, Widford This area will be closed from its junction with B1004 Ware Road northwestwards for its entire length starting on 16 April 2026 for seven days. No alternative route is available; however, access will be maintained where possible.
