Hertfordshire road closures and traffic notices for April 2026
Hertfordshire County Council announces multiple road closures and traffic orders starting April 2026.

Hertfordshire County Council has issued a series of temporary road closure and traffic regulation orders set to commence in April 2026. These measures are part of ongoing infrastructure improvements and maintenance works across the county.

Key Road Closures and Orders

  1. Thundridge Bridleway and Footpaths: The council will close Bridleway Thundridge 48 and Footpaths 49, 49A, and 49B from Cambridge Road southeastwards for resurfacing works. The closure is effective from 13 April 2026 for up to six weeks. Alternative routes are available for pedestrians on Thundridge 45 and for equestrians and cyclists on Thundridge 39.
  2. B181 Roydon Road, Stanstead Abbotts: This road will be closed from its junction with Kitten Lane to Coldharbour Farm for gas main replacement from 27 April 2026. The closure will last approximately 14 days.
  3. Church Lane, Wormley: Scheduled utility service works will close Church Lane from West End Road northwestwards for one day starting 29 April 2026.
  4. Lea Road into A121 Station Road, Waltham Cross: Right turn movements will be prohibited due to street lighting works from 27 April 2026 for two days.
  5. Brookside, Hertford: Utility service works will necessitate the closure of Brookside from the northwestern boundary of No.57 south westwards for three days starting 27 April 2026.
  6. Bromley Lane, Standon: This road will be closed from Hadham Road to Much Hadham Public Footpath No.001 for five days starting 27 April 2026 due to proposed works.
  7. Fore Street, Hertford: Closure from Market Street to A414 Bluecoats roundabout is scheduled from 13 April 2026 for five days.
  8. Churchfield Road, Tewin: Utility works will close this road from the western boundary of No.4 north eastwards for three days starting 13 April 2026.
  9. Benningfield Road/Close, Widford: Closure is planned from B1004 Ware Road north westwards for seven days starting 16 April 2026.
  10. Benington Road, Walkern: Scheduled works will close this road from High Street to Walkern Road for five days starting 13 April 2026.
  11. Queen Hoo Lane, Tewin: Utility service works will close this lane from Bramfield Road to Tewin Hill for ten days starting 13 April 2026.
  12. Crib Street, Ware: Water connection works will close Crib Street from St Evroul Court north eastwards for five days starting 13 April 2026.
  13. Various Roads in Wheathampstead, St Albans, Harpenden, and Bricket Wood: Multiple roads will face temporary closures and waiting restrictions due to proposed works commencing on or after 13 April 2026.

Speed Limit Changes

Additionally, a new speed limit order introduces a permanent 20 mph speed limit on sections of Twyford Road and Twyford Close in Bishop’s Stortford effective from Friday, 17 April 2026.
