Hertfordshire road closures and restrictions from April 2026

Hertfordshire County Council has announced a series of temporary road closures and waiting restrictions across various locations in the county, set to commence in April 2026. These measures are being implemented under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to facilitate essential works.

Affected Areas and Routes

  1. Birch Green, Hertingfordbury: Roads including Birch Green and Foxdells will be closed with alternative routes via The Old Coach Road and Pipers End. Works are scheduled for five days starting 7 May 2026.
  2. Bramfield Lane, Waterford: Closure from A119 North Road for utility service works on 7 May 2026. An alternative route is available via Bramfield Road.
  3. Park Lane, Waltham Cross: Full closure with no alternative route but access maintained where possible. Works begin on 4 May 2026 for five days.
  4. Warren Lane, Cottered: Closed for electrical works from 10 April 2026 for six days.
  5. West End Road, Wormley: Closed for utility repairs on 21 April 2026 with an alternative route via Church Lane.
  6. Unnamed Road (3U185), Hertford: Closure for utility repairs on 22 April 2026 with an alternative route provided.
  7. Ware Town Public Footpath No.024: Closed from 20 April 2026 for five days with an alternative pedestrian route available.
  8. Unnamed Road (3U40), Wellpond Green: Closed for water connection works from 20 April 2026 for five days.
  9. Greenbank, Cheshunt: Full closure with no alternative route but access maintained where possible starting 20 April 2026.
  10. Various Roads in Standon, Buntingford, Wyddial, and Hertford: Closures affecting High Street and Vicarage Road among others from 20 April 2026 for five days.
  11. Traffic Management in Ware: Various roads and footpaths will have traffic management measures in place starting 20 April 2026 for up to six months.
