Exeter traffic and land notices: December updates

In Exeter, several important public notices have been issued concerning traffic regulations and land disposal. These notices are crucial for residents and commuters to understand the upcoming changes and their potential impacts.

Traffic Notices

Albion Street, Cleaveland Street, Clinton Street Devon County Council has announced temporary restrictions on Albion Street, Cleaveland Street, and Clinton Street in Exeter. From January 5, 2026, these roads will experience a prohibition of through traffic and parking for up to 18 months. The restrictions are necessary for gas mains replacement works. Dean Street & Temple Road Starting December 8, 2025, Dean Street and Temple Road will have a temporary prohibition of parking to facilitate lead replacement schemes aimed at resolving water quality issues. Maple Road Maple Road will also face temporary prohibitions of through traffic and parking from January 2 to February 13, 2026. This is part of ongoing gas mains replacement efforts.

Shaftesbury Road From December 2 to December 18, Shaftesbury Road will be closed to through traffic with alternative routes provided. This closure is necessary for lead replacements to improve water quality.

Land Disposal Notice

Former Matford Offices, County Hall Devon County Council intends to dispose of approximately 0.6 hectares of open space land at the Former Matford Offices site. Objections to this disposal must be submitted in writing by December 19, 2025. Previous objections will also be considered.

Speed Limit Order Proposals

Chudleigh Road Proposals have been made to introduce a prohibition of motor vehicles on Chudleigh Road from the A379 to a point northwest of that junction. Additionally, a new speed limit of 30mph is proposed along certain sections of Chudleigh Road. Public comments are invited until December 18, 2025.
