Devon County Council has announced a series of temporary traffic and parking restrictions affecting areas in Exeter and Topsham, set to commence from mid-February 2025. These measures are being implemented under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to facilitate essential utility works.

In Exeter, Okehampton Street will be subject to a temporary prohibition of through traffic from Monday February 17 2025, with an anticipated completion date of Friday March 7 2025. This closure is necessary for gas mains replacement works conducted by Wales & West Utilities. During this period, an alternative route will be signposted, directing vehicles via Alphington Street, Exe Bridge North, Edmund Street, Exe Bridge South, Cowick Street, Buddle Lane, Okehampton Road, and back to Okehampton Street. Pedestrian access will also be restricted on Okehampton Street during the same timeframe.

Additionally, Gandy Street in Exeter will experience a temporary prohibition of through traffic and parking from Tuesday February 18 2025 until Monday February 24 2025. This restriction is required to facilitate a new connection by National Grid (Torquay). The alternative route for vehicles will be via High Street, Queen Street, Little Queen Street, and back to Gandy Street.

In Topsham, Fore Street will see a temporary prohibition of parking from Monday March 10 2025 to Friday March 14 2025. This measure is necessary to allow for trenching work in the tarmac footway for a new supply installation by National Grid (Torquay). The suspension of parking bays is intended to provide a pedestrian walkway during the works.

These temporary restrictions are expected to impact local traffic flow and parking availability. Those who have any concerns or believe they may be adversely impacted are encouraged to contact the relevant utility companies for further information. For Okehampton Street-related queries, Wales & West Utilities can be reached at 0800 9122999. For Gandy Street and Fore Street inquiries, National Grid (Torquay) is available at 01392 352654 and 01803 320304 respectively.
