Devon County Council has issued several temporary traffic orders affecting roads in Exeter and Axminster throughout December 2025. These restrictions are necessary to facilitate essential maintenance work, primarily focused on lead replacements to resolve water quality issues.

Shaftesbury Road, Exeter

From 2 December 2025, Shaftesbury Road will be closed to through traffic and parking from the junction with Barton Road to Old Vicarage Road. The anticipated completion date is 18 December 2025. Two diversion routes have been established: one via Barton Road, Duckworth Road, and Old Vicarage Road; the other via Powderham Road.

Barton Road, Exeter

The one-way system on Barton Road will be temporarily suspended from 2 December to 18 December 2025. This change is necessary to reverse the one-way system for lead replacement works.

Oakfield Road, Exeter

Oakfield Road will be closed from Buller Road to Albion Street starting 1 December until 21 December 2025. Diversions will guide vehicles anti-clockwise via Clinton Street and clockwise via Cleveland Street.

Stafford Road, Exeter

Stafford Road will see a prohibition of through traffic from 1 December to 21 December 2025. Access will be maintained for residents only.

Churchill Road, Exeter

A temporary one-way street order will be in effect on Churchill Road from Cowick Lane to Barton Road starting 2 December until 15 December 2025.

Holland Road, Exeter

Holland Road will be closed from Cowick Lane to Barton Road from 2 December to 15 December 2025. Diversions include routes via Coleridge Road and Churchill Road.

Beaufort Road, Exeter

Beaufort Road will be closed with no alternative route available from 25 November to 19 December 2025.

The Trafalgar Way, Axminster

This road will be closed for a short period from 23 November to 24 November 2025 for patching and drainage works.

Doddiscombsleigh Area

The road from Sextons Cross to Half Acre will be closed from 2 December to 15 December 2025 for underground cable works. A detailed diversion route has been provided.

These measures are part of a broader effort by Devon County Council and South West Water to improve infrastructure and address water quality concerns. For further details or concerns regarding these restrictions, residents can contact Kier on behalf of South West Water at the provided telephone numbers.
