Devon County Council has announced a proposal to implement new speed limits on sections of the A376 and A3052 roads in East Devon. This initiative is part of an effort to enhance road safety under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

The proposed changes include introducing a 40mph speed limit on the northbound carriageway of the A376 (Exmouth Road) from Clyst St Mary Roundabout to a point 475 metres north of Clyst St George Roundabout. Additionally, a 50mph limit is proposed for the southbound carriageway from a point 410 metres south of Clyst St Mary Roundabout to a point 40 metres north of Clyst St George Roundabout. The northbound carriageway from a point 40 metres north of Clyst St George Roundabout to a point 475 metres north will also be subject to the 50mph limit.

These changes are intended to improve traffic flow and safety for all road users. The draft order, along with detailed plans and statements of reasons, can be accessed online at Devon County Council's website. For those without internet access, documents are available for viewing during normal office hours at Devon Libraries.

How can I submit my comments or objections? Comments or objections must be submitted in writing to the Director of Legal & Democratic Services at County Hall, Topsham Road, Exeter EX2 4QD, or via the online portal at Devon County Council's website by 4 December 2025.

Will my personal information be protected? Yes, any submissions will be anonymised before being reviewed by the Highways & Traffic Orders Committee (HATOC) members or published online. Personal data will be handled in accordance with Devon County Council's privacy notice.

Those who have any concerns or believe they may be adversely impacted by these changes are encouraged to review the proposal details and submit their feedback accordingly.
