Devon County Council introduces new speed limits

Devon County Council has announced plans to implement new speed limits on key roads in East Devon. Under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the council proposes to introduce a 40mph limit on the A376 Exmouth Road northbound from Clyst St Mary Roundabout to a point 475 metres north of Clyst St George Roundabout. Additionally, a 50mph limit will be introduced on the A376 Exmouth Road southbound from a point 410 metres south of Clyst St Mary Roundabout to a point 40 metres north of Clyst St George Roundabout.

The draft order, plan, and statement of reasons can be viewed online at Devon County Council's website. Interested parties have until 4 December 2025 to submit objections or comments in writing.

Temporary road closures in Exeter

Several temporary road restrictions have been announced for Exeter. From 17 November 2025, Barnardo Road will be closed to through traffic and parking for lead replacement works aimed at resolving water quality issues. This closure is expected to last until 28 November 2025.

Additionally, Churchill Road will become a one-way street from 2 December 2025 to manage traffic flow during further lead replacement works. This restriction is anticipated to end by 15 December 2025.

Dean Street and Temple Road will also see a temporary prohibition of parking from 8 December 2025 due to gas mains replacement works, with an expected completion date of 9 January 2026.
