Devon road closures for lead replacement and resurfacing works
Temporary road closures in Exeter for lead replacement and resurfacing works.

Devon County Council has announced multiple temporary road closures in Exeter under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. These measures are necessary to facilitate lead replacement schemes and road resurfacing projects.

Old Vicarage Road Closure

From 1 April 2026, Old Vicarage Road will be closed from outside number 19 to outside number 75. This closure is expected to last until 16 April 2026. The closure is part of a lead replacement scheme aimed at resolving water quality issues. An alternative route will be signposted via Cowick Street, Alphington Street, Exe Bridge North, Edmund Street, Exe Bridge South, Alphington Road, Sydney Road, and Ferndale Road.

Landscore Road Closure

Starting on 10 March 2026, Landscore Road will be closed with no alternative route available. This closure is also part of the lead replacement scheme and is anticipated to end on 20 March 2026.

Glenmore Road Closure

Glenmore Road will be closed from 11 March 2026 until 2 April 2026 as part of the ongoing lead pipe replacement scheme. No alternative route is provided.

Clifton Hill Closure

Clifton Hill will be closed from 9 March 2026 to 22 May 2026 between the hours of 8:30am and 6:30pm. This closure is necessary for lining works and the construction of traffic calming build-outs. An alternative route will be available via Belmont Road, Clifton Road, Heavitree Road, Gladstone Road, and Polsloe Road.

Cambridge Street Closure

From 23 March 2026 to 10 April 2026, Cambridge Street will be closed for a lead replacement scheme. Vehicles can follow an alternative route via Buller Road and Brunswick Street.

A377 Cowley Bridge Closure

The A377 Cowley Bridge will undergo resurfacing from 10 March 2026 to 24 March 2026 during night hours from 8pm to 6am. Diversions will be signposted via A396, A3072, A3124, A30, St Davids Hill, Hele Road, New North Road, Longbrook Street, Pennsylvania Road.
