A396 Stoke Canon 40mph speed limit order announced
Devon County Council proposes a 40mph speed limit on A396 near Exeter.

Devon County Council has announced a proposal to introduce a 40mph speed limit on a specified section of the A396 road, which runs through Exeter and Stoke Canon. This initiative is being undertaken under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

The draft order, along with a plan and statement of reasons, can be accessed online at devon.cc/tro. Additionally, free computer access is available at Devon Libraries during their opening hours for those wishing to view these documents.

Physical copies of the documents are also available for inspection during normal office hours at the County Hall located on Topsham Road in Exeter.

Members of the public are invited to submit objections or comments regarding the proposal. These must be submitted in writing to the address provided or via the website devon.cc/tro by April 30 2026. While submissions may not receive individual acknowledgements, all received will be considered.

It is important to note that any comments submitted will be anonymised before being reviewed by members of the Highways & Traffic Orders Committee (HATOC) or published on the council's website. Personal data will be handled in accordance with the council's privacy notice, which can be viewed at devon.cc/troprivacy.
