Hertfordshire County Council has issued several road traffic notices effective from June 2026. These include temporary closures and diversions across various locations in the county due to planned utility works and public path orders.

Public Path Order Confirmation

On 21 May 2026, Hertfordshire County Council confirmed a public path diversion order under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990. The order affects the Buntingford 35 footpath, diverting it along a new route as detailed in the order plan. Copies of the order can be viewed online or by appointment at Farnham House, Stevenage.

Temporary Road Closures

Several roads will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic to facilitate utility service works:

  • The Street, Furneux Pelham: Closed from 22 June 2026 for water connection works. An alternative route is provided via local roads.
  • C16 (Unnamed Road), Tonwell/Stony Hills, Stapleford: Closed from 22 June 2026 for utility works with an alternative route via A602 Tonwell Bypass.
  • Church Street, Ware: Closed from 25 June 2026 for utility service works. Alternative routes are available via A1170 High Street.
  • Church Lane, Wormley: Closed from 22 June 2026 for utility service works with a detailed diversion route provided.

Additional Notices

  • Footpath Closures in Broxbourne and Wormley: From 22 June 2026, several footpaths will be closed for gas mains replacement. Alternative pedestrian routes are available where possible.
  • Mentley Lane East, Standon: Closed from 10 June 2026 for utility service works with no alternative route available.
  • Whempstead Road, Benington: Closed from 10 June 2026 for utility service works with an alternative route provided.

Traffic Regulation Orders

The council also proposes new waiting restrictions and speed limits in Cheshunt and Turnford to improve road safety. This includes a prohibition of entry on certain roads and the installation of Toucan pedestrian crossings and raised speed tables.
