Hertford traffic restrictions and road closures from June 2026

Hertfordshire County Council has announced a series of temporary road closures and traffic management measures across various locations in Hertford, set to commence in June 2026. These measures are necessary to facilitate essential utility service works.

Port Vale Closure

From 5 July 2026, Port Vale in Hertford will be closed to all vehicular traffic from its junction with Russell Street southeastwards for approximately 39 metres. The closure is required for utility service works and will last for one day. Access will be maintained where possible.

Bucks Alley Closure

Starting 6 July 2026, Bucks Alley in Essendon/Bayford will be closed from its junction with Robins Nest Hill to Ashendene Road for about 1293 metres. This closure is expected to last for 21 days. An alternative route is available via Robins Nest Hill, Church Road, C54 (unnamed road), White Stubbs Lane, and Ashendene Road.

B1037 Cottered Closure

The B1037 (unnamed road) in Cottered will be closed from its junction with Church Lane southwestwards for approximately 45 metres beginning on 6 July 2026. The works are scheduled to take five days. An alternative route includes B1037 (unnamed road), A507 (Baldock Road/Clothall Road), B656 Whitehorse Street, among others.

Park Lane Paradise Closure

In Cheshunt, Park Lane Paradise will be closed from a point 75 metres northeast of its junction with Cromwell Wood Close southwestwards for about 220 metres starting on 9 July 2026. The closure will last five days with an alternative route via Beaumont Road and Bread and Cheese Lane.

Allard Close Closure

Allard Close in Cheshunt will also see a closure from its junction with Peakes Way northwestwards for approximately 100 metres starting on 9 July 2026. The works are expected to take five days.

Old Nazeing Road Closure

Old Nazeing Road in Broxbourne will be closed from its junction with B194 New Nazeing Road southwestwards and southeastwards for about 267 metres on 9 July 2026. The closure is scheduled for one day.

Acorn Street Restrictions

Acorn Street in Hunsdon will face both closure and waiting restrictions starting on 6 July 2026 for ten days. The closure extends from its junction with B180 High Street to Hunsdonbury Lane over approximately 925 metres.

Additional Closures

Other roads affected include The Street in Furneux Pelham, C15 (unnamed road) in Furneux Pelham, A10 Great Cambridge Road slip roads in Cheshunt, various footpaths in Broxbourne and Wormley, Church Lane in Wormley, Turners Hill into Windmill Lane in Waltham Cross, Church Street in Ware, C16 (unnamed road) in Tonwell/Stony Hills Stapleford, and more.

These orders are part of the council's statutory function under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to ensure necessary infrastructure improvements while maintaining public safety. Residents are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly and contact the relevant authorities if they have any queries regarding specific closures or alternative routes.
