Devon County Council has announced a series of temporary traffic and parking restrictions across Exeter, set to commence in May 2026. These measures are part of ongoing infrastructure improvements aimed at addressing various utility and structural issues.

St Leonards Road, Exeter From 1 June 2026, a temporary prohibition of through traffic and parking will be enforced on St Leonards Road. This restriction is necessary to facilitate a lead replacement scheme intended to resolve water quality issues. The anticipated completion date is 13 July 2026. An alternative route will be signposted via Topsham Road, Matford Lane, and Wonford Road.

Norwich Road, Exeter Starting 13 May 2026, parking will be temporarily prohibited on Norwich Road from the junction of Coventry Road to Lincoln Road. This measure is required for the renewal and replacement of old metallic gas mains and property service pipes. The expected end date for these works is 8 July 2026.

Monmouth Street, Topsham From 11 May 2026, Monmouth Street will see a temporary prohibition of through traffic and parking due to risks associated with water ingress affecting underlying cob walling and timber lintels. The works are anticipated to conclude by 31 July 2026. A diversion route will be available via Monmouth Hill, Holman Way, Parkfield Way, Station Road, and Elm Grove Road.

Road from Pepperdon Hall Lane to Wray Barton, Moretonhampstead This road will be closed from 1 June 2026 for retaining wall repair and rebuilding works. The closure is expected to last until 17 July 2026. Traffic will be redirected via the A382, A30, M5, A38, and back onto the A382.

Shillingford Road, Exeter A section of Shillingford Road will be closed from 1 June 2026 for the establishment of a compound area. The closure is scheduled to end by 17 July 2026. Traffic will be rerouted via the south-to-north service road past No.44-38.

Wardrew Road & Footpath from Buddle Lane to Wardrew Road, Exeter From 13 May to 29 May 2026, Wardrew Road will be closed to vehicles for gas main replacement works. Additionally, the footpath from Buddle Lane to Wardrew Road will be closed from 22 May to 31 May 2026. Pedestrians can use an alternative route via Broadmeadow Avenue.
