In July 2026, several important road traffic notices have been issued by Devon County Council affecting various areas in Exeter and beyond. These notices include temporary restrictions and new traffic regulations aimed at improving infrastructure and ensuring public safety.

Temporary Restrictions

  1. Footpath from Lower Kings Avenue to Union Road, Exeter
    • Duration: From 8 July 2026 for up to 18 months.
    • Reason: Sewer repairs.
    • Alternative Route: Lower Kings Avenue, Higher Kings Avenue, Sylvan Road, Union Road.
    • Contact: South West Water at 0344 346 2020.
  2. Cycle Track from Hennock Road Central to Grace Road South, Exeter
    • Duration: From 27 July 2026 for up to 18 months.
    • Reason: Replacement of old metallic gas mains with new plastic mains.
    • Alternative Route: Cycle track from Hennock Road Central to Grace Road South.

  3. Footpath No. 6, Farway
    • Duration: From 2 July 2026 to 1 January 2027.
    • Reason: Public safety concerns at the footbridge.
    • Alternative Route: North end of FP6 and FP9.
    • Contact: Public Rights of Way at 0345 155 1004.

New Traffic Regulations

  1. Newtown, Exeter
    • Effective Date: From 10 July 2026.
    • Changes: Introduction of one-way system except for cycles on Clifton Hill; prohibition of motor vehicles on Russell Street.
    • Documents Available At: Devon County Council TRO.
  2. Bampfylde Street & Exeter Bus Station
    • Effective Date: From 10 July 2026.
    • Changes: Revocation of no loading at any time on Bampfylde Street; introduction of no entry from Cheeke Street into the bus station exit.
    • Documents Available At: Devon County Council TRO.

Additional Notices

  • Cowick Lane & Balls Farm Road, Exeter
    • Temporary prohibition of through traffic and parking from 27 July to 1 September 2026 for gas mains replacement.
  • Dean Street, Exeter
    • Temporary prohibition of through traffic and parking from 13 July to early August/September for lead pipe replacement schemes.
  • Cedars Road, Exeter
    • Temporary prohibition of parking from 10 August to late August for gas mains replacement works.
