Devon County Council has announced multiple temporary road closures in Exeter as part of essential infrastructure upgrades. These closures are necessary to facilitate a lead replacement scheme aimed at resolving water quality issues and the replacement of old metallic gas mains with new plastic ones.

The affected roads include Temple Road, Dean Street, Oxford Street, Church Road, and Beaufort Road. The closures will commence on 22 June 2026 and are expected to last until various dates, with some works anticipated to finish by 13 July 2026 and others extending until 5 October 2026.

Temple Road Closure

From 22 June 2026, Temple Road will be closed to through traffic and parking. An alternative route will be signposted via Roberts Road, Fairpark Road, and Dean Street. Access will be maintained for residents during the closure.

Dean Street Closure

Dean Street will also face a temporary closure starting from 13 July 2026, with an anticipated completion date of 3 September 2026. The diversion route will guide vehicles via Temple Road, Roberts Road, and Fairpark Road.

Oxford Street, Church Road, and Beaufort Road Closures

These roads will be closed from 22 June 2026 with an expected end date of 5 October 2026. The one-way system on Oxford Street and Cecil Road will be suspended during this period. Vehicles will be redirected via School Road, Cecil Road, Church Road, and Oxford Street.

These restrictions are implemented to ensure the safe and efficient completion of the lead replacement scheme by Kier on behalf of South West Water and the gas main replacement by Wales & West Utilities.
