Devon County Council has announced temporary restrictions on two key footpaths in Exeter to facilitate essential infrastructure repairs. The closures are enacted under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, Section 14.

The first closure affects the footpath from Lower Kings Avenue to Union Road. This restriction is necessary to enable sewer repairs and will be in place from 9 July 2026 for a maximum of 18 months, with an anticipated completion date of 2 October 2026. Pedestrian access will be restricted except for those accessing adjacent land or premises. An alternative signed route will direct pedestrians via Lower Kings Avenue, Higher Kings Avenue, Sylvan Road, and Union Road.

The second closure involves the cycle track from Hennock Road Central to Grace Road South, known as Footpath 26 in Exeter. This closure is required to replace old metallic gas mains with new plastic mains. It will commence on 27 July 2026 and is expected to conclude by 21 September 2026. The alternative route will guide pedestrians via Hennock Road Central, Alphin Brook Road, and Grace Road South.
