The Ministry of Defence has released the firing schedule for Dartmoor Training Area covering the period from Saturday 25 July to Sunday 2 August 2026. The notice indicates that there will be no live firing on the weekends of 25-26 July and 1-2 August. However, during the weekdays, specific areas will be active.
On Monday 27 July, firing will occur both day and night at Willsworthy, while Merrivale will remain inactive. The following day, Tuesday 28 July, both Willsworthy and Merrivale will experience day and night firing. Wednesday 29 July will see day-only firing at Willsworthy and both day and night activities at Merrivale. On Thursday 30 July, the same pattern continues with day-only firing at Willsworthy and full-day activities at Merrivale.
No live firing is scheduled for Friday 31 July. It is important to note that during April to September, if no live firing is planned by 9am, any noises heard will likely be from blank cartridges or fireworks. Daytime firing occurs between sunrise and sunset, while nighttime exercises take place between sunset and sunrise.
Residents and visitors are advised not to touch any military debris as it may be dangerous. Any findings should be reported to the Commandant or local police.
