Temporary road and footpath closures in Exeter and Exminster

Devon County Council has announced several temporary road and footpath closures in Exeter and Exminster to facilitate essential development and maintenance works. These measures are being implemented under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Footpath No. 13A, Exminster

From Thursday, 17 September 2026, until Tuesday, 16 March 2027, Footpath No. 13A in Exminster will be closed to all traffic except for access to adjacent land or premises. The closure extends from Chudleigh Road to the new shared path. An alternative route is available via the pavement alongside Chudleigh Road. This closure is necessary to enable development works. Franklin Street, Exeter

Starting from 21 September 2026 for a maximum of 18 months, Franklin Street will be closed to through traffic and parking. The anticipated completion date is 11 October 2026. The closure is part of a lead replacement scheme aimed at resolving water quality issues. Alternative routes include Roberts Road and Radford Road.

Salisbury Road, Exeter

Salisbury Road will also experience a temporary prohibition of through traffic and parking from 21 September 2026, with an expected finish by 23 October 2026. The closure supports the lead replacement scheme. Vehicles can use Iddesleigh Road, Rosebery Road, and Elmside as alternative routes.

Monkswell Road, Exeter

From 12 October 2026, Monkswell Road will be closed for up to 18 months with an anticipated end date of 27 November 2026. This closure is part of the lead replacement scheme. Alternative routes are provided clockwise via Monks Road, Thurlow Road, Mount Pleasant Road, Priory Road; and anticlockwise via Priory Road, Mount Pleasant Road, Pinhoe Road, Thurlow Road, Monks Road.

Emmanuel Road, Exeter

Emmanuel Road will have a temporary prohibition of parking from 19 October 2026 until 30 October 2026 due to water works. There is no alternative route available.

Various Roads in Kenton/Dawlish

From 21 September 2026 for a maximum of 18 months between the hours of 7pm and 7am, roads including A379 from Exeter Hill south to Exeter Road will be closed for patching, cleaning, and lining works. Alternative routes include A379, A381, A380, A38.

London Road, Whimple

A temporary speed limit of 30mph will be enforced on London Road from 12 September 2026 until 2 April 2027 between the hours of 8am and 6pm due to development works by Persimmon Homes South West Ltd.
