The City of Plymouth has announced several new traffic regulation orders affecting Old Town Street and surrounding areas. These changes, effective from 23 September 2026, aim to improve road safety and manage traffic flow more effectively.

The new orders include prohibiting motor vehicle access from midnight to 4am and from 8am to midnight on Armada Way, Cornwall Street, Civic Square, New George Street, and Old Town Street. Permit holders are exempt from these restrictions.

Additionally, no loading and no waiting at any time will be enforced on sections of Armada Way, Cornwall Street, Guildhall Square, New George Street, Old Town Street, and Whimple Street. Goods loading only bays will be added to Whimple Street and Guildhall Square.

The taxi ranks on Old Town Street will be revoked as part of these changes. These measures are intended to streamline traffic movement and enhance pedestrian safety in the area.

Residents or businesses affected by these changes can view the full details of the orders on the Plymouth City Council's website or request a hard copy by calling 01752 668000. Those wishing to challenge the validity of the orders have six weeks from the date of implementation to apply to the High Court.

These amendments follow consultations with the Chief Officer of Police and are enacted under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
