Hertfordshire traffic notices for road closures and restrictions
Hertfordshire County Council announces multiple road closures and restrictions.

Hertfordshire County Council has issued several traffic notices detailing upcoming road closures and restrictions across the county. These measures are being implemented under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to facilitate essential works.

Warren Lane, Cottered The temporary closure of Warren Lane in Cottered will commence on 8 October 2026. The closure is necessary for the replacement of a telegraph pole. The affected section extends 60 metres southeast from its junction with B1037. Access will be maintained where possible, but no alternative route is available. The works are expected to last two days.

The Old Coach Road, Cole Green Scheduled to begin on 2 October 2026, this closure will affect a 40-metre stretch southwest from its junction with Hertingfordbury Road. An alternative route is provided via Hertingfordbury Road, A414 Cole Green Bypass, Birchalls Lane, and The Old Coach Road. The works are anticipated to take one day.

Hoe Lane, Hertford Heath From 1 October 2026, Hoe Lane will be closed for one day to replace a telegraph pole. The closure affects a 66-metre section southwest from its junction with A119 London Road. An alternative route includes Hoe Lane, A119 London Road, A1170 (London Road/Amwell Hill/Pepper Hill), A10 (unnamed road), and Hoe Lane.

Poles Lane, Thundridge Starting on 3 October 2026, Poles Lane will be closed for two days to facilitate telegraph pole replacement. The closure covers a 100-metre section northeast from its junction with Cambridge Road. No alternative route is available.

Swanfield Road, Waltham Cross This closure will take effect on 21 September 2026 for two days due to remedial works. The affected area extends 27 metres west from its junction with Central Avenue. An alternative route is via Central Avenue, Gloucester Avenue, Royal Avenue, and Swanfield Road.

Byde Street, Hertford Scheduled from 21 September 2026 for five days, Byde Street will be closed for remedial works over a 15-metre section northeast from its junction with Wellington Street. An alternative route includes Byde Street, Wellington Street, Nelson Street, Molewood Road, Bean Road, A119 North Road, North Road, St Andrew Street, B158 (Old Cross/Cowbridge/Port Hill/Bengeo Street), Cross Road, Duncombe Road, and Byde Street.

Marshalls Lane, Sacombe Commencing on 18 September 2026 for one day due to utility service works. The closure affects a 200-metre stretch northeast and southeast from its junction with Rowney Lane. An alternative route is via Rowney Lane, Potters Green, Standon Green End, Ermine Street, High Road, and Marshalls Lane.

Vicarage Lane, Stapleford From 19 September 2026 for one day due to vegetation removal and brickwork repairs. The closure covers a 100-metre section southwest and northwest from its junction with Hertford Restricted Byway No.009. An alternative route includes Vicarage Lane, Sacombe Road, B158 (Bengeo Street/Port Hill/Cowbridge/Old Cross/Mill Bridge/The Wash/Parliament Square/Castle Street), A414 (Gascoyne Way/Hertingfordbury Road), A119 (North Road/High Road), and Vicarage Lane.

Additionally, new waiting restrictions are proposed in parts of Ware to improve road safety under the Hertfordshire (Trapstyle Road, Park Road and The Brickfields) Order 2026. Objections or representations should be submitted by 8 October 2026.
