Hertfordshire road traffic notices for September 2026

Hertfordshire County Council has announced several temporary road closures across the county starting in September 2026. These closures are part of ongoing development and utility works under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Bridleway Closures

  • Buntingford 013: This bridleway will be closed from Hare Street Road to The Causeway for approximately 400m starting on or after 11 September 2026. The closure is expected to last up to six months to facilitate development works. Pedestrians can use alternative routes via Buntingford 008 and 034, though no suitable alternatives exist for cyclists and equestrians.
  • Thundridge 048: Scheduled for closure on or after 1 September 2026 for one day, this bridleway will be closed for utility works. No alternative route is available.

Road Closures in Cheshunt

  • B176 Crossbrook Street: From 14 September 2026, this road will be closed for six days due to utility service works. An alternative route includes B176 (Crossbrook Street/Turners Hill), B198 College Road, A10 Great Cambridge Road, A121 Winston Churchill Way, and B176 (High Street/Crossbrook Street).
  • Dark Lane: Also closing on 14 September 2026 for one day, with an alternative route via Dark Lane, B156 Goffs Lane, Churchgate, Cromwell Avenue, and Dark Lane.

Ware Road Closures

  • Park Road: Closure from its junction with Roman Court north westwards for approximately 40m starting on 14 September 2026. The works are scheduled to take three days.
  • Tower Road: Closing from a point 158m north east of its junction with Homefield Road north eastwards for approximately 35m starting on 15 September 2026. The works are expected to last two days.

Other Notable Closures

  • Various Roads in Goffs Oak and Ware: Starting from 16 September 2026, multiple roads will be closed for seven days. These include Pollards Close and Goffs Crescent in Goffs Oak and High Oak Road in Ware.
  • B181 Station Road, Stanstead Abbotts: Closure from its junction with Lawrence Avenue south westwards to Amwell Lane starting on 15 September 2026 for two days.
