Hertfordshire County Council has confirmed several road traffic notices that will come into effect starting September 2026. These include a range of temporary road closures and traffic management measures across the county.

Diversion Order in Hertingfordbury

On 20 August 2026, Hertfordshire County Council confirmed a diversion order under the Highways Act 1980. This order affects the public footpath running from TL 2910 1186 N along Beechleigh's driveway to TL 2903 1194. The path will be diverted to follow the garden boundary. The order takes effect on 3 September 2026.

Temporary Road Closures

Several roads will be temporarily closed for remedial and utility works:

  • Byde Street, Hertford: Closed from 21 September 2026 for five days. An alternative route is provided via Wellington Street and other local roads.
  • Swanfield Road, Waltham Cross: Closed from 21 September 2026 for two days. Alternative routes include Central Avenue and Gloucester Avenue.
  • Marshalls Lane, Sacombe: Closed from 18 September 2026 for one day. Access will be maintained where possible.
  • Vicarage Lane, Stapleford: Closed from 19 September 2026 for one day with an alternative route via Sacombe Road.

Long-term Closures

The following roads will have extended closure periods due to significant works:

  • Various Roads in Hoddesdon: Starting from 7 September 2026 for five weeks due to gas main works.
  • King Edwards Road, Ware: Closed from 8 September 2026 for three days for utility service works.
  • B1004 Ware Road, Wareside: Closed from 7 September 2026 for five days.

Traffic Management Measures

Traffic management measures will also be implemented in Braughing and Tewin:

  • Uplands, Braughing: Traffic restrictions start on 7 September 2026 for six months.
  • B1000 Hertford Road, Tewin: Closed from 7 September 2026 for five days.

New Traffic Regulations in Hertford

New waiting restrictions and a reduced speed limit of 20 mph are proposed for parts of West Street and Horns Road in Hertford to improve road safety. These changes are part of ongoing efforts to enhance traffic flow and safety across the region.
