Devon road traffic notices for September 2026
Devon County Council announces temporary road restrictions in Exeter and Stoke Canon.

Devon County Council has issued several temporary road traffic orders affecting various locations in Exeter and Stoke Canon. These measures are being implemented under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to facilitate essential works.

Stoke Canon Road Closure

From Tuesday September 5 2026 to Wednesday September 6 2026 a temporary prohibition of through traffic will be in place on the road from Burrow Corner to Chestnut Crescent Stoke Canon. This closure is necessary to remove the crossing surface and treat the underlying road. The closure will be enforced between 11 45pm and 8am with an alternative route provided via Green Lane A396 and Chestnut Crescent. For further details contact Sunbelt Rentals at 03700 500792.

Welcome Street Parking Restrictions

Starting Thursday September 28 2026 parking will be temporarily prohibited on Welcome Street Exeter from the junction of Willeys Avenue to outside number 11 Welcome Street. This restriction is expected to last until Saturday October 21 2026 and is required for water works. There is no alternative route available. Cambridge Street Traffic Prohibition

From Thursday September 28 2026 Cambridge Street Exeter will be closed to through traffic until Wednesday October 18 2026. This closure is necessary for replacing gas mains and renewing service pipes. An alternative route will be signposted via Cambridge Street Buller Road and Brunswick Street. Elton Road Traffic and Parking Restrictions

Elton Road Exeter will experience a temporary prohibition of through traffic and parking from Thursday August 31 2026 until Monday September 18 2026 as part of a lead replacement scheme. The alternative route will be via Elton Road Clinton Avenue Monks Road Monkswell Road Priory Road and back to Elton Road. Contact South West Water at the aforementioned number for more details.

Church Road Alphington One Way Traffic Restriction

From Thursday September 7 2026 Church Road Alphington Exeter will have a one way traffic restriction in place until Monday October 23 2026 due to gas works. The clockwise alternative route includes Church Road Alphington Road Ide Village Road Cowick Lane Marsh Green Road West Trusham Road and Alphingbrook Road.
