Devon County Council has announced a series of road and footpath closures across the county, set to commence in September 2026. These measures are part of ongoing efforts to manage traffic flow and facilitate essential infrastructure works.
Road Traffic Notices
Bishopsteignton, Dawlish, Exminster, Kenton, Kingsteignton, Newton Abbot, Teigngrace
Under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, Devon County Council proposes several amendments to traffic regulations. Key changes include:
- Bishopsteignton: No Waiting At Any Time on Fore Street, Murley Crescent, Shute Hill, Teign View Road & West Street.
- Dawlish: No Waiting At Any Time on Barton Crescent & Barton Villas.
- Exminster: No Waiting At Any Time on Milbury Farm Meadow.
- Kenton: Revocation of No Waiting 9am-6pm on The Triangle.
- Kingsteignton: No Waiting At Any Time on Furze Cap, Road from Gallows Cross to New Cross & Strap Lane.
- Newton Abbot: No Waiting At Any Time on Aller Brake Road, Broadlands Avenue, College Road, Kiln Orchard, St Lukes Road & Teign Road.
- Teigngrace: No Waiting At Any Time on Road from Teignbridge Gate to Gallows Cross.
These restrictions include exemptions for passenger pick-up/drop-off, loading/unloading goods, and disabled vehicles. Objections or comments must be submitted by 1 October 2026 via devon.cc/alwrp.
Temporary Traffic Restrictions
Whimple and Alphington
Temporary prohibitions will affect several roads:
- Whimple: From 14 September to 25 September 2026, a temporary prohibition of through traffic will be in place on the road from Tub Corner Cross to Crannaford Cross. This is necessary for trenching works to install new HV cables. An alternative route will be signposted.
- Alphington (Exeter): From 7 September to 23 October 2026, Church Road will have a one-way restriction due to gas works. A clockwise diversion route will be available.

Footpath Closure
Exminster
Footpath No. 13A in Exminster will be closed from Thursday 17 September 2026 until Tuesday 16 March 2027. This closure is necessary for development works. An alternative pedestrian route is available via the pavement alongside Chudleigh Road.
