The Environment Agency has announced its intention to carry out improvement works on a debris screen located on the College Brook at College Road, Churchgate, Broxbourne, Hertfordshire. The proposed works are part of efforts to enhance local infrastructure without significant environmental impact.

According to the notice published in the Hertfordshire Mercury, the project involves replacing the existing inlet screen with a new debris screen that complies with the latest technical guidance. Additionally, new working platforms will be installed to facilitate maintenance and clearing activities. Public safety will also be improved through the installation of fencing around the site.

The Environment Agency has determined that these small-scale works will not have significant effects on the environment and therefore does not plan to prepare an Environmental Statement. This decision was made after considering various factors such as location and potential impacts in line with Schedule 2 of The Environmental Impact Assessment (Land Drainage Improvement Works) Regulations 1999.

An Environmental Action Plan has been developed to mitigate any potential risks during construction. This plan includes measures to protect species, manage flood risk, maintain water quality, and minimise disturbance to residents. Pollution prevention controls and biosecurity procedures will be implemented to prevent the spread of invasive non-native species.

Residents or interested parties wishing to express concerns or make representations regarding the environmental effects of the proposed works are encouraged to do so in writing within 30 days of this notice's publication. Further information can be obtained from Vinicius Delboni, Project Manager at the Environment Agency.

For more details on this project or to view related environmental documents, contact the Environment Agency at Kings Meadow House, Kings Meadow Rd, Reading, Berkshire RG1 8DQ.
